Air Travel for Seniors

Passengers 75 and older can receive some form of expedited screening through risk-based intelligence-driven security that allows TSA to better focus resources on passengers who more likely pose a risk.

Request Assistance

TSA Cares is a helpline to assist travelers with disabilities, medical conditions, and other circumstances. You may also request assistance through the TSA security checkpoint online at http://www.tsa.gov/contact-center/form/cares or by phone at(855) 787-2227. The level of service will vary based on airport’s resources.

Screening

You may leave on your shoes and light jacket during screening. However, removal of light jackets is required for Advanced Imaging Technology screening.

If you alarm during security screening, you may be required to remove your shoes for further screening or undergo a pat-down. You can request to be seated during this portion of the screening.

Passengers 75 and older who are unable to stand for screening will be screened through other security methods.

Should you travel withmedical devices and/or implants, other screening procedures may apply.

To File a Complaint

If your screening experience did not meet your expectations, you may request to speak with a supervisor at the checkpoint. You may also submit your concern(s) to the TSA Contact Center.

If you have experienced discrimination, you may submit a civil rights complaint.
